Proform Hybrid Trainer Pro Review: Top Recumbent Bike Under $750

Gym memberships are expensive and many of us would rather invest that money into a piece of equipment we can use over and over. The down side to this is that you can’t buy the whole gym unless you won the lottery.

The good news? The ProForm Hybrid Pro lets you invest in two machines for the price of one. The Hybrid Trainer Pro is both an elliptical trainer and recumbent bike in one. This provides two different types of low impact cardiovascular exercise in just one machine.

More than this, ProForm Hybrid Trainer Pro is also equipped with the latest innovations in technology to help make the most out of any workout. Here’s a closer look at what you can expect from this innovative gym equipment.

All The Reasons Why you Should Buy Proform Hybrid Trainer Pro

  • You want the benefit of having two different types of gym equipment.
  • You want to go beyond regular cardio and use specialized trainings.

PROS

  • Dual Purpose - Perhaps the biggest pro about the ProForm Hybrid Trainer Pro is that it works as two separate equipement - an elliptical machine and a recumbent bike. That is two machines for the price of one, and two different types of exercise that you can get with just one piece of equipment.
  • Comfortable Seating - Given that biking will be done while seated, this machine has taken that into consideration. Cushioned seats ensure and comfort during long periods of seating. Integrated lumbar support also provides proper back support to eliminate strain and back pain.
  • Adjustable Seating - Proform takes into consideration having different users for this machine, and has outfitted it with a seat that moves both vertically and horizontally for adjustment. This makes it easier to allow both taller and shorter users to make use of the machine.
  • Integrated Workout Options - The system is built with technology that allows you to access unlimited workouts from all over the world designed by recognized trainers. This paid subscription works via bluetooth and works directly with the machine.
  • Tablet Holder - Whether you plan on subscribing to the workout plans or use your work out app of choice, this feature comes in very handy. The extra wide tablet holder makes it possible to have your device right in front of you securely while exercising.

CONS

  • Short Stride -  Users who are under 6 ft tall should not have a problem using this machine. However, if you are more than 6 ft. the stride of the ProForm Hybrid Trainer Pro may fall short, despite the 17- inch stride, preventing a proper workout.
  • Full Size - Other than the bike seat which folds away to make room for the elliptical machine, there is no other way to make this smaller. The machine will take up 72.75L x 24.5W x 61H in of space. If you have limited space you may want to make sure you have enough room for it.
  • LCD Display - This dual machine does come with an LCD screen to help you monitor training stats, it may not provide the best display. Compared to its contemporaries, the display for this machine may run short because it lacks backlighting. Display may come out lighter than expected and may need good lighting around it to be clearly visible.
  • No Pedal Straps - The ProForm Hybrid Trainer provides adequate room for various shoe sizes but does not come with any pedal straps. Instead it is outfitted with gel cushions which are supposed to prevent slipping and a stopper to prevent feet from moving out. Despite this, it may lack the security that users look for.
  • Assembly - If you aren’t planning on paying for professional assembly, you may want to make sure you are good at putting things together. Typically, this builds in about 2 hours but some of the parts may make it a challenging build.

My husband had no problem putting it together. We opened the large box outside and unpacked it and brought everything in a couple of pieces at a time. An excellent exercise machine. We love it. It is very quiet and very smooth. The electronic readout is not back lit, but is very visible in good lighting. The elliptical foot pads and moving handle bars are perfect. The seat is very comfortable, and at perfect angles. The bar with the electronics, stationary handlebars, and cup and tablet holder can be unscrewed and re-positioned when using it as a recumbent bike. You just loosen the big red knob and it comes down into place, so you can read the screen while pedaling. To pedal, you just have to raise the the foot bars with the gray pads. Is very simple and easy…”

Conclusion

Is it a yay or a nay for this piece of workout equipment? I would say that it has some good things to offer. For one, you can’t beat the price you pay for what is technically two different machines. It may be a bit big, but it works well since you cut down to one workout piece. Plus, I really like the optional subscription workouts that you can opt to buy.

Despite the setback on assembly (you can always opt for professional assembly for a fee anyway), I would say it’s a good deal. It you’re worried about stride length you can always check how well it will work for you at an actual store before clicking on the checkout button.
